Provence, France
Provence in France is a beautiful destination that offers so much. Planning to visit between the end of June and the end of July is the perfect time to experience the beautiful lavender fields at their best. Take advantage of the local festivals and traditional markets set up weekly in cities, towns, and villages throughout the region. The Arles’ Saturday market is especially renowned.
Arles is also on the famous Rhône River, boasting Roman treasures and is a popular destination for river cruises. As an important stronghold on the Roman road to Spain, it still has impressive UNESCO-listed remains, such as a splendid amphitheatre.
Try Provence’s refreshingly light rosé wine, which accounts for nearly 90% of the region’s wine production. With warm weather, great wine, and rich culture, Provence is one of our favourite destinations in France.
Andalucia, Spain
Andalucia, a stunning Spanish region between the Atlantic and Mediterranean, boasts a rich cultural heritage and is the birthplace of many of Spain’s traditions, including flamenco and tapas.
The region’s cities are adorned with Gothic cathedrals, while its rural areas are dotted with charming villages that seem frozen in time. The mountain ranges are crisscrossed with walking trails that are ideal for exploring during spring and autumn.
The snow-covered peaks of the Sierra Nevada National Park offer skiing opportunities from November to May.
If that’s not enough, Andalucia’s over 400 miles of coastline is a major attraction, offering everything from bustling resorts and golf courses on the Mediterranean-lapped Costa del Sol to the wilder dunes, authentic ports, and Atlantic breakers of the Costa de la Luz.
Faro, Portugal
Faro is a beautiful destination in Portugal, known for its stunning beaches, history, and vibrant culture. Located in southern Portugal, it is the gateway to the Algarve, a region famous for its beautiful coastline, crystal-clear waters, and picture perfect fishing villages.
In the area, you can enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving. Several beaches offer snorkelling opportunities, while local dive shops can arrange scuba diving excursions.
One of the most popular sights in Faro is The Arco da Vila. This monumental archway was built on one of the medieval gateways to the city and commissioned by Bishop Francisco Gomes de Avelar in the early 19th century. It was designed by Italian architect Francisco Xavier Fabri and inaugurated in 1812.
Inside, you can find an Italian-made statue of Saint Thomas of Aquinas, considered one of the finest examples of Italian neo-classical art across the Algarve. Interestingly, the Arab entranceway can still be seen inside the archway. This was part of the old Muslim walls and represented the entrance to the city for anyone arriving by sea. It’s considered a unique example of Moorish architecture in Portugal due to its high level of preservation and its location in its original place.
