Vias Plage, The Hidden Gem of the Mediterranean Coast

Written by Shayle

With its unique location on France’s sun-drenched Mediterranean coast, Vias Plage has some of the warmest water, sheltered beaches, warm golden sands and best accessibility of all the beaches in the South of France.

Only a stone’s throw from La Carabasse and other holiday parks such as Camping Le Club Farret, Camping Le Napoléon and Les Salisses is the bustling Vias Plage.

Situated in between Cap d`Agde and Valras Plage. It’s a perfect beach for families and has lifeguards on duty so you’ll feel really safe, allowing you to relax and enjoy your holiday!

Vias Plage

We find cycling the easiest way to get from La Carabasse to Vias Plage as there are plenty of places to rent bikes, cycle paths to follow and places to lock your bike up safely. Don’t worry if you prefer to walk as it will only take you a few minutes from La Carabasse.

For beach lovers, you can hire deckchairs at the beach if you’re planning on spending the day there. For the adventurous, there is tubing, paddleboarding, banana boats, and jet skiing. More information is available here.

Vias Plage is well known for its friendly Farinette beach and a stunning promenade lined with restaurants. Avenue de la Méditerranée has open-air shopping to wander around and pick up some gems as well as some fabulous restaurants for you to try delicious local food. A couple of our favourites are Le Saint-Pierre and Le Jardin.

If you’re a thrill-seeker you’re in luck, don’t miss out on the largest stationary funfair in Europe, Europark Vias Plage. It has water rides, rollercoaster rides and other lively attractions.

Vias Plage Mini Golf

If you enjoy other attractions whilst on holiday there is mini-golf Calafornien which is located close to Europark, this mini-golf course will transport you to the American West. There are 2 18-hole courses to pick from.

You’ll feel like you’re either in California or a Wild West village. Your journey ends in a classic 1930s American garage on the legendary Route 66. So much fun!

Vias Plage Go Karting

An attraction for the thrill-seekers is Megakart, located opposite Euro Park. Go Karting is a fun alternative to water sports at a beachfront stay. Adapted to expert drivers and beginners.

Megakart rents competition karts or semi-competition for adults and children so that all riders can enjoy the pleasures of this motorsport thrill safely.

Beach Bars at Vias Plage

There are a number of popular beach bars at Vias Plage. The main one is called Chiringuito which is popular with our locals and tourists alike.

Chiringuito serves some seriously tasty Mojitos (we promise) and there is a simple but extensive bar menu.

You can also hire sun loungers here and have your drinks brought to you on the beach or sit on the deck and overlook the beach. The main restaurant is located on a covered terrace, looking down on the beach.

The service here is excellent. On baking hot days if you manage to get a table right at the front of the terrace, you’ll really appreciate the sea breeze to keep cool. For a small kitchen, Chiringuito manages to turn out some interesting plates of food. We love the Sea Bass in a Thai dressing but there are plenty of choices. It is advisable to book ahead during the high season.

Canal du Midi

To admire the famous Canal du Midi, you don’t need to travel far, at Vias Plage you have the chance to explore this beautiful Canal.

The Canal runs just metres from La Carabasse and you can discover it in several ways either on foot, by bike or by boat!

The towpaths will guide you along the canal and this is an easy walk as they are accessible for all levels, its trails are flat and straight. This is a lovely walk with children, enjoy a moment of peace and try to spot some local wildlife together. You’ll see ducks or coypu who dig their burrows in the river banks. Rarely, you will be able to see water chickens, grey herons and if you are super lucky, turtles.

For those who love to cycle try the 33 km of trails along the Canal du Midi between Béziers and the Thau lake. Don’t worry as they are easily accessible by bike, safe and suitable for all ages. Classified as greenways, the banks are reserved for hikers and non-motorized vehicles. If you do not have a bike, there are plenty of places you can rent them. Including from the La Carabasse campsite.

Fancy becoming a Captain for a few hours? You can rent a boat without a licence near La Carabasse Campsite this is only about 2km from the campsite, near to Europark. If you’re feeling adventurous you can even rent a barge and try a trip on the calming waters of the canal.
